När is a lively village with their own outdoor scene, golf course, restaurant and supermarket. There are many small picturesque fishing villages and the beautiful nature invites you to go on bicycle tours and walks. Around the stream in När there are lots of different birds and plants. The area around the lighthouse looks like an African savannah and is a must for all guests to visit.
Culture
Nature- and culture trail that is called Linné trail and starts at the parish house. Along the trail there is information about fifty plants. The trail is divided in three laps that altogether are five and a half kilometre. A varying walking tour that offers knowledge about plants as well as culture and ancient monuments. Wind shield and barbecue is situated at Dambron. Picnic tables are spread at a few places along the trail.
När church is a beautiful gotlandic church with interior from 17th Century.
Närsakar was built 2004 with great idealistic work by the people in the villge. It is situated on an incredible beautiful place at the opening of the stream in När. As audience you look out at the sea with the islets of Lau and Ljugarn at the horizon. Närsakar is the place for theatre and music arrangements during summertime.
Movie time – In the community centre in När bygdegård cinema is arranged in the summer.
Bath
Herta is a nice sandy beach where you can take the children, shallow with playground. At the kiosk you can buy a hot dog and so on. Right by the beach is the old fishing village well worth a visit.
Sights
Närsholmen is a beautiful peninsula with peculiar savannah alike landscape open for animals out on the graze. Here are a lot of uncommon animals and plant to look at as well as a nice lighthouse. The bird sanctuary on Närsholmen offers many oppurtunties for bird-watching. About 45 species of birds are to be found in the area.
Kapellet fiskeläge was already on the map of När 1701. It was one of the most important fishing villages in När when the farmers combined the agriculture with fishing. In När there are many well kept beautiful old fishing villages that are well worth a visit.
Restaurant and café
Restaurang Fransan, När Golfklubb, during daytime the restaurant serves daily special and simple meals. Also a la carte and specialties from Gotland. License to sell alcoholic beverages. Take away also available.
Golf
Beautiful situated 18 hole golf course in the middle of the village with sea view. Natural fairways with the oldest holes in an old horse paddock.
