Lummelunda is best known for its caves. Here you can go by bicycle or walk and explore the beautiful coastlines. Because the closeness to Visby you can easy explore both the Gotland countryside and the medieval city of Visby.

 

Culture and nature

Lummelunda is suited about 13 kilometer north of Visby along road 149.

Björkume naturereserve is a 240 acres forest and mire area. The area goes from road 149  and down to the beach between Stenkyrkehuk and Burge. The forest in the nature reserve consists of sparse and herbrich pineforest.

Brucebo Naturereserve is a nice walking area along the coastline. Across the area a 2 kilometers long nature trail has been constructed. The area dominates by the high cliff edge. On the cliff crest you have a nice view over the reserve and the north coastline. Here grows a sparse lowgrowing pine forest with juniper, sloes and roseships. Between the cliff and the sea are several small spring mires. In the mires grow a lot of different and rare flowers.

Lummelunda caves is  a given destination for both young and old. Follow the guide into the cave and 400 million years back in time, among the strange fossils and beautiful stalactite formations. The whole trip takes about 60 minutes, you need to bring a warm jacket (the temperature is 8C). For those seeking a more exciting experience you can pre-book a cavetour where you can go boating and crawling in the narrow aisles,  wade in the water and experience the total silence in the darkness 500 meters into the cave. For the youngest cave visitors, we recommend the popular Knattegrottan (pre-book for a guaranteed place) where we visit the cave's beginning. Here, children get a helmet and your own torch in order to discover fossils and bugs that live in the cave. It is said that there should be a treasure there ...

Around the cavearea in Lummelunda there are a spectacular scenery with two nice nature trails. Hiking above the cave systems of the geological nature trail with spectacular views over the Baltic Sea. On the way, you can visit real Gotland sheep. The park´s nature trail takes you through a unique vegetation where the river takes its way towards the sea. At the caves thera are also several exhibitions, rock-climbing wall and a gift shop and cafe.

Around Själsö fishingvillage and port there are fine walks along the sea with the possibility to take a swim along the way. The fishingharbour is nowdays just used for recreational fishing.

Lickershamn is a popular bathing, boating and recreation area with an old fishing village. Here you can swim in the harbor, the sandy beach north of the port or at the pebblebeach close to stoneformation (rauk) called  Jungfrun who is located at the south of the port. Jungfrun is the highest stoneformation  (Rauk), eleven meters above the ground. At Lickershamn there is a restaurant / cafe and a small fishshop with fresh and smoked fish.

Activities

At Mix Ranch in Stenkyrka there is much to do for both young and old. Here you  can compete in athletes, playing footballgolf, testing bull riding, swimming in heated pools, build and run your own pedal car. There´s also a restaurant at the Mix Ranch.

Seriegården (sculptured cartoon figures ) in Lummelunda is Europe's largest collection of carved cartoon and fairytale characters. Each year a number of new sculptures are added. Since its opening  in 1959, nearly 300 sculptures have been made at Seriegården. It is a popular destination for all ages. There is also a kiosk and café at Seriegården.

Bath

Are you in Lummelunda is it never far from the sea. The nearest beach is Brissund, a lovely little beach. Next to the beach is Brissund fishing village. Another nice beach is in Lickershamn.

Restaurant and café

After a dip in the sea at Brissund you can continue to Krusmyntagården, a wonderful Gotland herb garden with its own restaurant and cafe. Here you can take a tour of the herb garden, shop products from the herbgarden and have something to eat or enjoy a drink at the sunset. At summertime the restaurant offers whole grilled lamb.
