Bondestugan in Tofta
We, Bertil and Ingrid Nilsson, built the Bondestugan cottage in Tofta. We live a few hundred metres from the cottage, along Toftavägen (County Road 140). The farm where we live is Bertil’s childhood home and has been in his family for many generations.
On our land, stretching down towards the beautiful fishing village of Gnisvärd, you will find one of Gotland’s largest ship settings, an ancient monument dating back to the Bronze Age. The farm’s arable land is leased out. Bertil worked at the Swedish Social Insurance Agency, while Ingrid worked as a preschool teacher at a parent-run cooperative preschool in Tofta. We are both now retired and keep ourselves busy with various projects, while enjoying the opportunity to take things at a more relaxed pace. We are also involved in the Equmenia Church in Väte, where Ingrid, among other things, sings in the choir.
We decided to build a Bondestugan cottage together after our three children had moved away from home. With Bertil’s keen interest in finance and Ingrid’s passion for gardening and interior design, it became an enjoyable challenge. Our children and their partners have also helped us a great deal, both with the practical work and with the design.
So far, Bondestugan has brought us a great deal of inspiration and joy, both in building the cottage and in renting it out. We carefully chose the location to create a sense of peace and tranquillity, right in the heart of this popular holiday destination.
Welcome to Tofta!
